Like Jane Goodall researching gorillas, Tom Brokaw breaks ground by discovering a new species of human (---->>>>>building dramatic music>>>*****) Evangelical Christians!!! Who knew that between the concrete canyons of NYC and LA there was a land full of humans who think and act differently. Brokaw states "for the past decade now the evangelical movement has tripled." The past decade?!?! Way to get on the story. Not too long ago NBC did a story about how NASCAR is dominating the sports world!!! To give a synopsis, the story has this condescending tone as if evangelicals are a science experiment worthy of being looked at from a microscope. I can already hear Tom's Earth shattering intro to next weeks story....."Tonight, we look at a device that plays music and video and it fits in the palm of your hand, and pretty soon you may know somebody who owns one. They call it an iPod." Brilliant Tom brilliant.

I don't know what I will say to one of my Christian brothers or sisters when I see them wearing one of these.

And a Pocket Full of Porn

So the video Ipod came out last week. I have to give pause and wonder ….”is this a good thing?” I thought the Ipod, just music, was cool. The photo Ipod a little neat but not really practical. Now this video Ipod. I waste enough time as it is on the web looking at silly videos of people making complete fools of themselves. Now I can do it in the company of my friends and family without the hassle of lugging around that huge clunky laptop.

I was in Chicago last month and I was saddened by what I saw. There were a lot of people walking around with Ipods in their ears. I was upset because I feel that whether they realized it or not, they were choosing to not interact with the rest of our society. But I can see the appeal. If you have an Ipod and you are jamming to Ashley Simpson, you can choose to ignore your surroundings. Or even if someone is trying to talk to you on the subway, you can easily pass off as not hearing them, even though you did. Just think of the potential conflicts you could avoid. I saw a guy delivering a pizza with an Ipod. I mean seriously the car stereo is not good enough. I guess he needed to hear that 50cent song all the way to the door.

So what’s going to happen once people start getting the video Ipod? I bet you traffic accidents will skyrocket. Pedestrian and vehicular. Cases of people with strained necks will also increase significantly. Then my mind turns really dark. Do you know how much porn you could put on one of these? I can’t imagine the amount of porn that will accumulate on these things. Guarding our kids from this trash just got 20 times harder. Porn was something that you used to have to go to shady video stores to get. (not speaking from experience) When you left with a video, it was in a brown paper bag because there was still some shame involved. Then the internet came along and the shame ended. You could do this in your own home without anyone knowing it. Now you will be able to do it in public without anyone knowing it. I guess I would rather have people ignoring me on the subway.

Faith and Charity

I thought that this was an interesting article.Faith Breeds Charity Not because I am a Christian and it is pro faith. But more because it was written by an atheist who is actually being intellectually honest with himself. It's not very long. It'll take you 5 minutes to read. I also thought it was bold of The Guardian, an unashamedly left publication, to publish such an article.

Here are some pictures from our trip to Europe. I won't get into the details because there is just too much to talk about. In short it was awesome. Vickie and I had a wonderful time. Backpacking and Eurorailing.....I highly recomend it to anyone.

Dreams do come true

When I was in 6th grade I recieved U2's "The Unforgettable Fire" as a Christmas gift. My life was forever changed. As I sat mezmorized by what I was hearing I read the liner notes over and over. There were 2 names that were not members of the band but at the age of11 or 12 I realized that they had a lot to do with what I was hearing. One was Brian Eno and the other was Daniel Lanois. In high school I saw both names again on The Joshua Tree, and then on Peter Gabriels records. It was then that I realized I was not only a fan of the artists of Lanois but also a fan of Daniel Lanois himself. But as years progress and I began to make records being a fan turned into a deep respect for him and his body of work. I had seen him perform onece in Nashville and was green with envy when my friends got to meet him. My friend Marc and I got to go see him a couple of weeks ago and I got to meet one of my heroes. Although I wish we could have talked for longer, it was still great to meet him.

What to say

My friend Andrew writes songs. So does my friend Jeremy. In fact my friends Billy, Matthew and Derek write songs. I have always envied them for the ability to not only start and complete the writing of a song, but to encapsulate a lot of emotion and passion all the while not really (or seeming so) giving a crap what others think. Which is why I am intrigued by this whole blog idea. I can basically spew out my thoughts for the whole world to see and get feedback as to what people think. How safe for my fragile ego. All my songwriting friends have blogs also......thiers are much prettier than mine. So I guess this is how we stay in touch these days. Email is for losers. Blogs and IM is where it's at. I think I might like this. It's kind of fun to just write. Peace kittens and good night.
